Apparently it is worth at least once to describe what LJ is for those who have never encountered it. Many who are not part of the LiveJournal community can not grasp for a long time what LiveJournal is. Why is he? Who is leading it and how does it all work? When someone asks me, every time I start to explain, then I myself get confused, get carried away with details and leave for other steppes. In my opinion, all these confusing explanations must somehow be organized and laid out, so that newcomers have a place to start.

So, what is LiveJournal, aka LJ, aka LiveJournal, aka LJ?

LJ is a unique online community of people who love to think. These people think often and a lot. In the process of thinking over various life phenomena, emotions, opinions, conclusions, ideas and much more are born in them. It is quite possible to put into words some of this endless and non-stop flowing stream. Some of these words people do not want to keep to themselves. Some of what they do not want to keep to themselves, they want to fix somewhere where it will be stored. Also, for example, how the Mesozoic mosquito is stored in an amber drop for millions of years, and is stored until surprised scientists find it in Egypt and pick it out with thin needles so that from the DNA preserved in its tissues to recreate exactly the same mosquito in ours time to breed it already in our time, so that new mosquitoes rebuild here what killed the old mosquito millions of years ago. Perhaps I'll write about this in LJ, but we are somewhat distracted. However, we will consider this an illustration of the very thoughts recorded on paper. Move on.

So, we have some thoughts that, due to congenital sclerosis or because of an ambitious desire to capture our thoughts for centuries, we want to write down somewhere. In theory, our brilliant thoughts can be written down in a paper notebook and put in a nightstand. This option has its advantages and many do so. But even these madmen clearly understand that sooner or later mom will throw this diary into the trash, grandmother will give it to grandfather to read, and dad can even put it on a cigarette. Moreover, paper is short-lived. And what is the point of keeping a diary if he is destined to die sooner or later? Have you seen a lot of diaries that young ladies kept in the 19th century? Almost all of them disappeared in the haze of time.

Therefore, after the Internet was invented, after some time the unforgettable Brad Fitzpatrick thought: "Why not keep and keep a diary on the Internet?" And then I registered the site and started programming the engine of this site. This is how a brilliant idea was born. He decided to call his website LiveJournal and, accordingly, registered it at www.livejournal.com. With this site, people could keep their thoughts for a little longer than a year or two. For example, this entry was made in 2002 and slightly revised in 2010. That is, it has been stored for 8 years, and the paper diaries of those times have turned yellow.

By the way, this is another plus of the online diary - you can correct your entries. Moreover, this is done a little easier than scratching out the phrase on paper with a razor "Masha is such a fool!"

And so a community appeared, consisting first of just a few diaries, then of several dozen, then hundreds, then thousands. Today, LJ has millions of diaries kept by people of all nationalities and religions.

Why do you ask the "Live" diary in perplexity?

Well, a reasonable question. Imagine that each of the millions of writers leading their magazines every second shares with the world around him his joys, sorrows, revelations and secret fantasies. Moreover, the exchange of thoughts is really like a living organism. Each of us not only keeps his own journal, but also reads other people's magazines. Isn't it a joy to spy on what your friend or neighbor wrote today or yesterday? Moreover, in LJ you can not only look at a friend's magazine, but also spy on a stranger's magazine. Depending on the wishes of the owner of the diary, you may or may not be able to read his diary. If the owner permits (in the settings there is such an option) all strangers to read his diary, you can easily open his journal and not only read all his thoughts over the past 10 years, but also easily answer him to any entry.

Let's say you went to the journal of your friend or classmate. And, let's say, on Monday morning he already managed to write: "Oh, it would be nice today to have a beer!" You answer him - right in his journal and right under this entry you answer: "You are an alcoholic, Vasily Apollinarievich!" Then, of course, he quits his job and answers you under your answer everything he thinks about you and about all your hobbies, including marijuana, higher mathematics, building anthills and composing hymns. Then you answer him, and he - again you. This is how the conversation is built. Conversations last for many pages and for many years. The comments on this post are also conversation. If you scroll down this page - you will see that it has been going on for eight years - there is a date and time next to each answer.

Replies to posts are called "comments" or, more simply, "comments". Both the recording itself and the comments to it are seen by everyone you allow - you, your friends, or even strangers who just looked into the light. All of them can answer any of you at any time, or just on the sidelines - in their own or someone else's diary - write something about both of you.

In each post and in each answer, you can insert not only text, but also links to sites, pictures, videos, music files and whatever you want. Diaries - or, in other words, blogs - of popular personalities, for example, Artemy Lebedev (tema.livejournal.com) or Anton Nosik (dolboeb.livejournal.com), are dotted with thousands of comments from zhezhists of all stripes and options - from the most enthusiastic, to angry - three-story. All this is quite common for LJ.

If you do not like intrusive attention, you can keep your journal so that no one sees it. Even friends. Then it will be like your paper notebook, only on the Internet, so your grandmother will not find it. At any time, you can make any entry open to everyone or to your friends. "Friends" in LJ are those users whom you have added to your friend list. That is, as soon as you said - this is my friend! - and pressed the corresponding button - this person can see your entries that you marked "Only friends can read".

Of course, when you do not know what to write in your diary, you can go through the diaries of your friends or simply through any open diaries and see what is new and interesting happening in the world and in LJ. This is very easy to do. Any friend of yours can log into your journal to find all public entries there.

If this morning you wrote something like: "The world is still unjust - a spider has a four-chambered heart, like a man's, and there are not two, but eight legs! Why such an injustice?" - your friend, if he has time and he likes you, most likely he will not hesitate to answer you that, they say, it's good that a person has only two legs, otherwise, how long would you have to cut your nails? This clever comment could have been answered not only by you, but also by your friends. In the end, it would turn out to be an interesting scientific dispute, completely recorded in your journal on one page, where it will be kept for as long as you want. At any time, you can delete any comment, an entire conversation (comment thread), your entry with all the comments, or your entire diary in general.

It will be a pity if you find yourself one of those fools who, in a burst of a minute splash, deleted a magazine with a thousand entries, and then cried bitterly that a huge period of their life with thoughts, emotions and ideas had sunk into oblivion. Now LJ is arranged in such a way that the magazine is not deleted immediately, but lies in a secret place for another month or two. This saved a lot of diaries.

In LJ, it sometimes happens that user groups are united into communities of interest. Such groups are called communities. For example, those who like to read books publish reviews in the Ru_Bux community. Each community has its own separate journal. In general, this is exactly the same diary, the only difference is that any member of the community can post entries in the community diary. That is, this is a diary of many people at once.

You can join any community. That is, enter the club of interest and follow the publications that are placed in the magazine by other members of the club. You will have the opportunity to publish your notes there, or just read other people's, without joining the club and remaining an outside observer. Culinary or car enthusiasts, cactus lovers and Chinchilla Girls groups, builders and businessmen - there are so many communities that the eyes run wide. Many Russian and foreign companies have their own LJ communities, in which they try to attract clients and fans.

For example, when I was writing this post, the most popular communities in LJ were the communities "Ru_sex" and "Girls_na_diet". Later, a wonderful community "Give_darom" appeared, in which they publish announcements about things that people want to get rid of for free. From there I received a wonderful computer desk that served me faithfully for many years, after which I myself gave it to other users.

Of course, as a diary owner, you yourself can start your own hobby club. Pick any topic and go. For example, no one has yet created the Society of fans to inflate airships. By the way, some users join LiveJournal just because they participate in communities. They do not keep their diaries and do not read the diaries of friends.

Each LJ user has a page with your profile (and face). There you can find information about yourself, your interests, pictures and much more. There you can also post the rules for commenting entries in your diary. For example, prohibiting swearing in your diary or prohibiting writing to those who believe that prohibiting swearing is snobbery.

You can often find rules like "If you don't like what I am writing, gather in columns and go to ...". Or "Only people from planet Earth are allowed to comment in my diary." If you want to describe your interests, this can be done briefly, for example, "I like to think" or "dig", or it can be long and boring (as I like to write). Then, simply by clicking on any "interest" with the mouse, you can easily check whether someone else likes to dig or you are the only one so smart.

For added glory, you can assign yourself an avatar. An avatar is not a movie, but a small small 100 x 100 pixel picture that represents you or your spirit while you are hovering somewhere. This picture can sometimes tell a lot about the owner of the diary. Some put their portrait there. But if you don't need extra glory, any image that most closely matches your Ego will do. For example, a dog or a flower will do. Ax, rainbow or eye. Pictures are often very interesting. What will be on your avatar is up to you.

You are the author of your diary. You can customize it according to your tastes. Paint, paint, disfigure or turn into a masterpiece. There are many ready-made options. The content of your diary can also be anything. Narrowly thematic or broadly public. Political, automotive, musical or mushroom. You can write at least one word a year, at least a thousand pages per minute. There are no restrictions. there is paid versions magazine with advanced features, but the free version is enough for the absolute majority. In order not to forget or lose anyone, you can bookmark your friends' magazines or any interesting comrades from different countries and cities. And then open them with one click. This is how it all works.

By the way, you can meet especially interesting friends in real life, go to cafes, and maybe even to restaurants. Acquaintance "in real life" after correspondence in LJ is a very common thing. The author of this entry is personally acquainted with many ZheZhysts. But, of course, you can never meet with anyone, and you can limit yourself to just posts or comments. There are numerous friendships, cohabitations and marriages of people who met in LJ. In the early years, when the magazine had just appeared, we all went to the same places (in Moscow the most famous meeting place was the PND - Cafe "Pirogi" on Dmitrovka) and we knew each other by sight.

People write their diaries, read strangers, comment and all this every day, from year to year. The magazine boils, seethes and lives its own life. This is indeed a very lively Magazine. Gossip, rumors circulate on it, someone deletes their magazines, someone comes to you by some unknown means and adds your magazine to their bookmarks. And you, having found an interesting person, add his magazine to your friends list. And so - ad infinitum! People write their thoughts, post pictures, send links to interesting sites, discuss the latest news and philosophize about everything in the world.

All this is difficult to describe, but for greater clarity, you should just go to LJ and read a few entries and comments to them. Try to write something to any LJ user. For example me. Right under this entry at the very bottom there is a window into which you can insert a couple of words and click the "Save" button. Also, like in my journal, in most journals you can leave a comment even if you are not a registered user. If I and other users answer you, all this may seem extremely exciting and interesting to you. Or maybe not.

LJ should be perceived more as a part of life than as a part of the Internet. Keeping a diary is both very personal and very public. To what extent one thing, and to what extent - another is up to the owner of his magazine. Since 2002, LJ has become an integral part of the Runet (the Russian part of the Internet) and now there are almost no people left who still (as one of the commentators writes) widens their eyes in surprise at the word LJ. But even if everyone knows well what LJ is and what it is eaten with, this entry will hang here as long as my journal exists.

Welcome to LiveJournal!

Yours sincerely,
Mikhail Lyufanov,
aka LJ user Mycroft

On the night of June 3–4, 2010, there was a short-term malfunction in LiveJournal.com, noticeable only to Russian-speaking users.

Bloggers pointed to a strange coincidence of names of suicide bombers
The complete namesake Maryam Sharipova, who staged a terrorist attack in the capital's metro, blew herself up at a rock festival in Tushino in 2003.

Bloggers warn
The Federal Biomedical Agency is preparing a program to close blood transfusion units at hospitals.

Bloggers will choose "National Bestseller - 2009"
In 2009, the All-Russian Literary Prize "National Bestseller" begins cooperation with the Internet resource Livejournal.com.

Five ways to become a famous blogger

The more a person reads you, the easier it is to create within yourself the illusion that you are not alone and that someone needs you. I can understand people who have been busy for years with only one thing - acquiring readers in any way.

What will happen to LJ if Pavel Durov gets it in control

In the comments on Roem.ru, Pavel Durov offered to sell him LiveJournal so that he could "revive the legendary resource." I tried to imagine how LJ would look like if control was transferred to the founder of VKontakte.

LJ strikes back

Rumors about the death of LJ have not yet been confirmed

Live Journal has been buried for a long time. Recently - with a special pathos associated with the sharp growth of social networks, in particular Facebook. The founder of "VKontakte" Pavel Durov even offered to help the "dying man". In LJ and Facebook, the next LJ “funeral” caused an active discussion. LiveJournal veteran Anton Nosik and Facebook apologist Arthur Welf spoke about this. The "private correspondent" decided to figure out what is happening with social networks.

Drugoi vs. Interfax

Blogger's victory over a journalist in a single hydroelectric power station

So the seemingly long-awaited conflict of the modern era was born. Blogging and professional journalism, which existed parallel to each other, came face to face at the same time and in one place - on the dismantling of the rubble of the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station. According to Interfax, the Russian "blogger number one" - drugoi, who is also the head of the SUP multimedia department Rustem Adagamov, survived from the scene of the reputable Interfax news agency Dmitry Afonin.

Anton Merkurov

Blogger Mikhail Kovalyov, unable to tolerate the regular appearance of not very censorship vocabulary in the diary of blogger Artemy Lebedev, wrote a statement to the Russian prosecutor's office, the purpose of which is to prohibit the use of invective vocabulary throughout the American portal Livejournal.com. The blogger cares about the moral health of Mr. Lebedev personally, as well as all of his subscribers, and indeed all Internet users. The blogger cannot sleep well and cannot understand in any way that a blog is, in general, a kitchen. And Mr. Lebedev owes nothing to anyone.

Svetlana Ivannikova: "One word in LJ can achieve a lot"

What will change in LiveJournal Russia under the new leadership

Last week it became known that the company SUP, which owns LiveJournal and Gazeta.Ru, has undergone personnel changes. Svetlana Ivannikova, who previously headed the marketing department, has been appointed the new head of LiveJournal Russia. Svetlana graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University several years ago and wrote a diploma about LJ, which was read by both teachers and students.

Cheap life - smart life

Practicing smart consumption in one experiment

Several friends decided to try to spend wisely for four weeks and write about it in LJ. Their experience was so interesting that more than 700 readers are already following the community. Maybe this is what we all lack in a consumer society?

Vasily Esmanov: "The only way to entertain yourself is to do something yourself"

On July 9, the ceremony of awarding the IX National Award "Media Manager of Russia - 2009", one of the main national awards in the field of media business, took place. Vasily Esmanov, 25-year-old creator of the youth web project Look At Me, became the laureate of the prize in the "New Media" nomination by unanimous decision of the jury - "For the creation of the only media youth Internet in Russia."

Today, when LJ is no longer a cake, it is rapidly changing in step with the times, with the help of financial tools, a blog with almost any content can get to the first lines of the rating. If earlier the ball was ruled by interesting exclusive content, now, for the most part, cash infusions, provocative headlines and other ways to break through to the top. But most of the newbies read their acquaintance with LJ from the TOP. So which blogs are really interesting?

1. varlamov.ru ... Everyone knows about Varlamov, and nevertheless, among the daily bombarding top posts, in my opinion the most interesting are about cities. From the "bad" / "good" series. Travel notes from abroad are also good. Everything else is not for an amateur, but there are also many such fans among the army of his readers.

2. macos ... Varlamov is wrong about Alexander Belenky, I don’t know what they didn’t grow together there. In fact, he is a normal guy, I have known him for a long time. And which of us does not periodically enter? You read his photo stories from different countries literally voraciously, they are so interesting and professional. It's a pity that there are fewer and fewer of them on Alexander's blog, but more yellow. But this is understandable, what is the demand, so is the supply.

3. tema ... An erudite and smart citizen is hiding behind the mask of an Internet boor and outrageous person. It is enough to read his posts about design, urban structure, and only Tyom's notes from ALL corners of the world (albeit with mediocre photos) - generally unique material that no one else has. And courage ... Maybe from some complexes.

4. sergeydolya ... I have been following Sergey's blog since 2008, and I personally met somewhere in 2012. I learned a lot (as it seems to me) from him. Lump, what else to say. It's a pity, after switching to NIKON, the photos for some reason became much worse.

5. nemihail ... Misha found his niche and works well with a quickdraw. By the way, provocative headlines and a cunning eyeliner to the khat are in many ways his invention, taken into service today. There is even such an expression - "non-Michael". In life, he is a very sociable and completely unstarred person, respect.

6. aquatek_filips ... Sergei Anashkevich is a very cool photographer and traveler. I still remember how I filmed the night sky with him in Jordan, I also learned a thing or two from him. I am always glad to meet and travel together with Sergey.

7. dpmmax ... A psychiatrist from Togliatti, Maxim Malyavin, who blogs with his wife, is a very pleasant person in person. Plus a colleague, so it's very, very interesting with him. The blog contains the most sparkling psychiatric stories-stories, I recommend.

8. kiss_my_abs ... Sonya Gudim's blog will be primarily of interest to young ladies who are fit, but even me, a person far from this topic, is interested in reading her stories.

9. dolboeb ... Anton Borisovich Nosik is a Runet and LJ guru, this is indisputable. His sophisticated analytical articles "on the topic of the day" will seem too contradictory to many, but it is certainly useful to read them.

10. dubikvit ... A blog filled with interesting stories from the past - mainly about how these or those films were shot. Very exciting.

11. popados ... Arthur Shigapov, who has traveled most of the world and wrote many travel guides different countries - bright and sharp on the tongue, his posts are read in one breath. The sweetest person in life.

12. mossudmed ... Notes by a Moscow forensic expert, accompanied by vivid and ominous macro photographs of why a particular person died. It will be interesting for readers with strong nerves.

13. ammo1 ... Alexey Nadyozhin writes daily about all kinds of gadgets and electronic accessories, conducts tests of various pieces of hardware - from light bulbs to computers.

14. doktorbel ... Notes of a resuscitator.

15. lovigin ... Everyone knows Petr Lovygin as a talented photographer who climbs into various assholes in the world and speaks vividly about them. His photographs cannot be confused with anyone else's. Master of his craft.

16. stalic ... A connoisseur of oriental cuisine and the author of several books on this topic. In addition, even before the advent of Instagram, he was a professional in terms of perfect food photography.

17. ljpromo ... Oleg Ovchinnikov, who lives where the sky is cloudless over the whole country, is an expert on LJ. It is from his blog that you can glean secrets and slightly open the veils hidden from prying eyes. With all questions of ratings and other UK - to him.

18. vmenshov ... The same direction of the blog as Oleg's plus very cool macro photos of insects.

I consider the LiveJournal (www.livejournal.com) to be the most valuable and unique source of information, I dream of sorting this information out on the “shelves” and “business cards” (like “multimedia catalog cards”) of my Panlog. But for this, initially it is necessary to single out the most popular "live journals" (blogs, diaries), although, of course, popularity and mass is by no means a guarantee of information content and thoroughness. I myself dream of slowly evaluating every significant blog, but only in the course of contenting the Personalities section of my Panlog. However, an overview of the most interesting blogs, including political ones, is presented in the LiveJournal itself in the blogs of Ilya Peresedov and Denis Tukmakov. Some I would add, including from my list of friends. It is not so much discussions of important topics that are important as getting important information and stimulating intellectual impulses. First, this is what Ilya Peresedov chose, having spent colossal work, in the material "Who's Who in LJ":

Consolidated review (about 200 names) of readable journals LJ.

Blogs are informative (with a distinct topic), meaningful, as a rule, do not develop mental disorder in friends.
